Dragonflies. I love dragonflies. I have spent 100s of hours watching, observing and photographing most of the dragonflies in the north Georgia mountain community of Lake Arrowhead.
Darner Dragonfly Magnet
This year I was teased by the large Comet Darner dragonfly and the equally large Common Green Darner. Toward the end of summer, the large male Darners began to patrol specific areas slower and lower.
It was at this time and their following mating that slowed the colorful insects long enough to snap, my photos. For hours I waited and try for a picture in flight. I took 10000's of photos but most were just a streak of color.
The males patrolled the ponds all summer rarely landing in view. The females are usually just an occasional blur. But at the right moment, one can capture these elusive creatures.
